The Centre has warned its workers of “consequences” if they go on strike called on 8 January by one of their associations to protest versus Union government’s policies including labour reforms, foreign direct financial investment (FDI) and privatisation, according to a Personnel ministry order.
The Central Trade Union, except Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh, and their affiliates in different sectors are mobilising workers and staff members for their proposed nationwide basic strike on 8 January, to object against a few of the central government policies and press for 12-point typical needs of the working class associating with base pay and social security to name a few.
“Any staff member going on strike in any type would face the effects which, besides reduction of incomes, may also consist of proper disciplinary action,” the order said. In a missive released to all central federal government departments, it said existing guidelines forbid a government servant from taking part in any kind of strike including mass casual leave and so on
. It stated the right to form the association does not consist of any guaranteed right to strike or protest.
“There is no statutory arrangement empowering the employees to go on strike,” the ministry stated.
